Puffin Spotting Season

Our Puffin Spotting Tours operate during the prime season for observing these delightful creatures. Starting from April, as the birds make their return to the islands, the tours continue throughout the nesting season until the end of July. Witness the spectacle as the puffins settle down for nesting in mid-April and bid farewell to the islands as they start their departure at the end of July or beginning of August.

Birdlife Galore

During this two-hour sailing adventure around the Farne Islands, you’ll have ample opportunities to witness the incredible birdlife that calls these islands home. Marvel at the sight of puffins, guillemots, shags, cormorants, kittiwakes, Arctic terns, razorbills and eider ducks. The islands come alive with the sights and sounds of these fascinating species, creating a truly memorable experience for bird enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Grey Seal Colony

Our Puffin Spotting Tours also take you to visit the renowned Grey Seal Colony. The Farne Islands are home to an estimated 3 to 4 thousand grey seals, and you’ll have the chance to witness them basking on the rocks, especially during low tide when more of the islands are exposed. With over a thousand seal pups born each autumn and winter, the colony is thriving, offering a unique glimpse into the lives of these beautiful creatures.

Knowledgeable Crew and Commentary

Throughout the journey, our experienced skipper and crew will provide a full commentary, sharing fascinating insights about the Farne Islands’ history, wildlife, and conservation efforts. They will be available to answer any questions, ensuring that you leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the natural wonders you encounter.

A Historic Journey

As an added bonus, your skipper will take you on a historical journey back in time, following the route of Grace Darling and her father during their heroic rescue in 1838. Learn about their incredible courage and the impact of their selfless act on the Farne Islands’ rich history.
