Experience the Magic of Inner Farne with Billy Shiel Farne Island Boats
A visit to the Farne Islands is a must for any nature lover, and our Inner Farne Landing Trip offers an unforgettable experience of this spectacular wildlife haven. From towering seabird colonies to playful grey seals, this boat trip brings you face-to-face with some of Britain’s most fascinating marine and birdlife, all while sailing through waters steeped in history.
Set Sail for Adventure
Your journey begins at Seahouses Harbour, where you’ll board one of our comfortable boats for a 2.5 to 3-hour tour around the Farne Islands. With the sea breeze in your hair, you’ll cruise past dramatic cliffs teeming with thousands of nesting seabirds. Depending on the season, you might spot puffins, guillemots, razorbills, Arctic terns, and more. The sight and sound of these bustling colonies are truly breathtaking.
The trip also takes you to the Grey Seal colonies, where you can watch these charismatic creatures basking on the rocks or bobbing curiously in the water. With our expert commentary, you’ll learn all about the diverse wildlife, the islands’ history, and the famous Grace Darling rescue of 1838, which took place in these very waters.
Landing on Inner Farne
If conditions allow, your trip includes a one-hour stop on Inner Farne, the largest of the Farne Islands. Stepping onto this historic island, you’ll find yourself surrounded by an extraordinary array of birdlife. Arctic terns nest close to the paths, often swooping overhead, while puffins dart in and out of their burrows. You’ll also find St Cuthbert’s Chapel, a fascinating relic from the island’s rich monastic past.
For those bringing dogs, well-behaved pets are welcome on the boat but cannot come ashore. They can remain in the care of our crew while you explore the island.
What If We Can’t Land?
As always, landings are at the Skipper’s discretion. If conditions prevent us from stopping at Inner Farne, the trip becomes an extended non-landing cruise, offering even more time to admire the seabirds, seals, and the islands’ rugged beauty.
