Plan Your Farne Islands Adventure Early This Season
With the new season just around the corner, excitement is building along the Northumberland coast. At Billy Shiel Farne Island Boats, bookings are already well underway as visitors start planning their holidays, and many of our most popular trips are filling quickly. If exploring the Farne Islands is on your wish list this year, booking ahead is the best way to avoid disappointment.
We offer a range of trips, each designed to show a different side of this remarkable group of islands.
Our Inner Farne trip is ideal for those who want time on the islands as well as a full boat tour. The experience lasts around 2½ to 3 hours and includes a complete cruise around the Farnes, followed by a full hour landing on Inner Farne itself.
During the journey, you’ll pass dramatic cliffs packed with seabirds, visit the Grey Seal colony and hear the story of Grace Darling’s famous rescue in 1838. Our expert commentary brings the landscape and history to life, helping you get the most from every moment of the trip.
A Relaxed Day Out to Holy Island
For a longer and more leisurely experience, our Holy Island (Lindisfarne) trip offers a wonderful day on the water. This 4.5-hour journey takes place onboard one of our modern double-decker boats, complete with toilet facilities and spacious decks for viewing and photography.
After a scenic cruise with full commentary, you’ll have around two hours to explore Holy Island at your own pace. From historic sites to coastal walks and local shops, there’s plenty to see and enjoy before the return journey.
Perfect Trips for Wildlife Lovers
If seabirds are your main interest, the Puffin Seabird Trip is a firm favourite. This two-hour cruise focuses entirely on wildlife, circling the Farne Islands without landing. Running from May to the end of July, it’s timed to coincide with the busy breeding season.
You’ll have the chance to spot Puffins, Guillemots, Shags, Kittiwakes, Arctic Terns, Razorbills and more, along with a visit to the resident Grey Seal colony.
End the Day with a Sunset Cruise
For something a little different, our Sunset Cruise offers a calm and atmospheric way to experience the islands. As the light fades and seabirds settle in for the evening, the Farne Islands provide a stunning natural backdrop for a truly memorable cruise.
Book Ahead for the Best Choice
All trips are now available to book, and demand is already high. Planning ahead gives you the best chance to secure your preferred date and trip. We look forward to welcoming you onboard and sharing another unforgettable season on the Farne Islands.
