The new season is approaching fast, and along the Northumberland coast there’s already a sense of anticipation in the air. At Billy Shiel Farne Island Boats, our upcoming trips are now open for booking, and as always, the most popular sailings are securing early.
But this year, we invite you to think beyond just “a boat trip.”

If you want to fully immerse yourself in the Farne Islands, our Inner Farne trip remains one of the most rewarding ways to do it.
Over approximately 2½ to 3 hours, you’ll enjoy a full cruise around the islands before spending a full hour on Inner Farne itself. This gives you time to experience the seabird colonies up close, take photographs, and truly absorb the atmosphere.
Along the way, we’ll visit the Grey Seal colony and follow the historic route of Grace Darling’s famous 1838 rescue. Our expert commentary ensures you don’t just see the islands, you understand them.
Looking for a full day experience?
Our Holy Island (Lindisfarne) trip offers a 4.5-hour adventure onboard one of our modern double-decker boats, Farne’s Lass or Farne’s Maiden. With spacious viewing decks and onboard facilities, the journey is as enjoyable as the destination.
You’ll cruise in comfort before enjoying around two hours on Holy Island itself — time to explore its history, scenery and unique character at your own pace.
Wildlife at Its Most Spectacular
For nature lovers, our Puffin Seabird trip is a seasonal highlight.
Running during the breeding season from May to the end of July, this two-hour cruise focuses entirely on wildlife, circling the islands without landing. Expect unforgettable sightings of Puffins, Guillemots, Kittiwakes, Arctic Terns, Razorbills, Shags, Cormorants and Eider Ducks, plus a visit to the resident Grey Seal colony.

For something truly special, our Sunset Cruise offers a quieter, more atmospheric experience.
As the sun drops behind the horizon and thousands of seabirds settle for the evening, the Farne Islands take on a completely different character. It’s a peaceful, memorable way to end your day on the water.
