More Ways to Explore the Farne Islands – Book Ahead for an Unforgettable Season
The forthcoming season is fast approaching and bookings are already coming in as people plan their holidays on the Northumberland coast. At Billy Shiel Farne Island Boats, all of our trips are now live in the booking system, and many popular dates are filling early. If a trip on the Farne Islands is part of your plans this year, booking ahead is strongly recommended.
The Inner Farne trip is one of our most rewarding experiences. Lasting approximately 2½ to 3 hours, with a full hour spent on Inner Farne itself, the trip includes a complete cruise around all of the Farne Islands. You’ll see seabirds crowding the cliffs, visit the Grey Seal colonies, and follow the route taken by Grace Darling and her father during their heroic rescue in 1838. A full expert commentary is given throughout, adding depth and local knowledge to every part of the journey.
Our Holy Island (Lindisfarne) trip is an excellent and truly unforgettable day out. This 4.5 hour trip runs onboard one of our modern double decker boats, Farne’s Lass or Farne’s Maiden, both with toilet facilities and spacious viewing decks. With full commentary en route, you’ll then enjoy around two hours on Holy Island, giving you time to explore its rich history, stunning scenery and unique atmosphere.
For bird lovers, the Puffin Seabird trip trip delivers unforgettable close-up views of the Farne Islands’ rich wildlife. This two-hour cruise sails around the islands without a landing, focusing on the incredible seabird colonies during the breeding season from May to the end of July, while also visiting the resident Grey Seal Colony along the way. Highlights include Puffins, Guillemots, Shags, Cormorants, Kittiwakes, Arctic Terns, Razorbills and Eider Ducks.
To finish the day in style, our Sunset Cruise offers a peaceful and memorable experience. As the sun sets, we cruise around the Farne Islands with thousands of nesting seabirds as a dramatic backdrop during the breeding season, creating a truly special end to any day on the water.
All of these trips are available to book now. With demand already high and many visitors planning well ahead, we recommend securing your place early. We’re proud of what we do and look forward to welcoming you onboard for another outstanding season.
